El Jones is a poet, journalist, professor, and activist living in Halifax. Ms. Jones was Halifax's Poet Laureate from 2013 to 2015, and her 2014 book of poetry "Live From the Afrikan Resistance!" is a collection of poems about resisting white colonialism
Ms. Jones is a regular contributor to publications such as the Halifax Examiner and the Huffington Post Canada. She has taught at numerous universities throughout Nova Scotia, and in 2017 was named the 15th Nancy's Chair in Women's Studies at Mount Saint Vincent University. Recently she was unanimously selected by The Halifax Police Commissioners to lead a committee to define defunding the police.
